Of books and desperation

I didn't have anything to read on me yesterday. I randomly decided to visit Ranjai's place and found Turbo's copy of 'The 3 mistakes of my life'. You'd be a moron if you couldn't guess the author's name from the super cheesy title. Anyway, since desperate times call for desperate-r measures, the prude in me gave way and the lame-ass took over.

It was the worst book I had ever read. Even Nagraj and Super Commando Dhruv's graphic comics were better when it came to plot(s) and characters. I get that Chetan Bhagat is not the best Indian author and expecting spectacular stuff would be akin to hoping India wins the next soccer world cup. I also get that he writes for the "masses", encouraging people to read more and gives them something which they can relate to. But 'The 3 mistakes of my life' was shockingly ridiculous. Characters yelled 'stereotype' in every act, (real-life) sensitive issues were grossly misportrayed and the author didn't even have the backbone to call out wrongdoers by their names. 'Five point someone' was much better than this one mate!

This minor reading disaster in my life was followed by a visit to Crosswords. Under the influence of a couple of pegs of this and that the store manager was just about to throw me out for overstaying, I hurriedly bought a copy of 'Sign of the Cross' by a little know Chris Kuzneski. Kuzneski is in Dan Brown's league. That'll tell you all. But I wanted something to read and I like Dan Brown's stuff. My favorite author (and genre) still remains Dickens but I admit - I like Dan Brown's writing. Go ahead and call me lame!

So, a review, rather a comparison (with DB), is going to ensue. Till then,

Footnote- This is turning out to be pretty difficult.
